Singer, songwriter, percussionist and actor Karina Buhr's debut solo album, Eu Menti Pra Voce (I lied to you), has already been tipped by some critics as one of the best Brazilian albums of 2010. It's the summation of her experiences acquired over the years working in varied fields of music and drama. Coming to the fore at the beginning of the century as lead singer of the band Comadre Fulozinha, she made three albums and toured the USA and Europe with them before moving to Sao Paulo to work with the Teatro Oficina theatre company as an actress, composer and musician. Now she's in the spotlight with her idiosyncratic rock-, jazz- and samba-tinged Sao Paolo pop, her wry commentaries and catchy refrains enhanced by the sparse and fluid arrangements of her expert musicians.
