Huda Asfour—musician, engineer, educator and social entrepreneur—believes in the necessity of transcending borders in both life and music. Huda is a natural storyteller whose music, through the tenderness of her oud and the lyricism of her compositions, tells stories that challenge taboos and stereotypes.
Her album “Kouni” (Be) 2018, reflects Huda’s multi-faceted musical, life experiences and identity. Its songs aim at revisiting the different musical genres that have helped shape the personality and music repertoire of Huda Asfour, ranging from folk songs of Iraq and Tunisia, to original compositions that delve into taboo identities, and explores the theme of love, outside of the borders imposed on its expression and manifestation. In this album, Huda blends vocals with classical and jazz inspired string and brass arrangements, and rhythms from a broad range of styles, to produce a unique amalgamation of sounds.

A través de la ternura de su oud y de la lírica de sus composiciones, Huda cuenta historias que retan los taboos y estereotipos. Su nuevo album “Kouni” (Be)” es una melánge de canciones originales y arriesgados arreglos del folklore de Tunis e Irak, y trata sobre las cuestiones del amor en sus varias encarnaciones. Huda estudió y colaboró con artistas de Túnez, Gaza, Ramallah, Egypt, Lebanon, Iran, Europa, China, Canada y EEUU.
