The Wales Arts Review is an online platform for Welsh, or Wales-based critics and writers. It aims to constitute a place of national record that will document the work of distinguished and emerging writers, theatre makers, visual artists, composers, performers and arts festivals, with Welsh origins or established connections to Wales.

The Wales Arts Review is a means by which Welsh culture can connect to the wider world. We engage with international agencies and partners to expand knowledge and inform
debate about the arts in Wales within a global context. We also publish arts criticism and long-form essays on global cultural figures that are of interest to people across Wales.

The Wales Arts Review aims to inspire an ongoing nation-wide conversation regarding the arts in Wales, celebrating both the nation’s rich cultural traditions and current world-class arts makers. We champion the best in the Welsh arts but uphold an editorial policy of independence and integrity by publishing criticism that is forthright, frank and incisive.

We believe that a vibrant arts scene is the expression of a confident and creative society. We maintain that a healthy critical culture is vital to its sustenance and development. As such, the Wales Arts Review is an important building-block in the formation of a new outward-looking, forward-thinking Wales.
