The wonderful Scandinavian bowed keyed fiddle the nyckelharpa is making a comeback! Following a recent BBC radio 3 programme on the wonderful nyckelharpa everyone wants to know about it. The ERIC SAHLSTRÖM INSTITUTET will this year have a stand at WOMEX to promote the instrument.

Griselda Sanderson is one of the UK's leading players and her solo show carries the audience on a journey from ancient times to traditional Swedish polskas of midsummer parties in the forest and her own entrancing compositions. With its 12 resonant sympathetic strings and 54 wooden keys the instrument looks otherworldly.

Last year Griselda toured on stage with the Royal Shakespeare Company playing music for nyckelharpa by Jon Boden of Bellowhead. In 2009 she released an album of original and traditional material and since then has built her reputation by combining the unique sound in a variety of collaborative settings with North and West African musicians to Swedish singers. Originally from Scotland, where she first encountered the instrument, Griselda is a World Music Network competition winner with and has contributed on several albums to date.
