Worl Music in the West, most often formatted, presented as innocent neo-colonialist posdacrds: the sun, the dunes, the smiles, the welcome, the Attaya or Cebbu Jën offered to the nice toubabs...

But the music of the real worlds… cruel, savage, unrestrained and even bloody, because in order to make a pact with or chase away the demons, as during the N’döep ceremonies of the Lebous in Senegal. Much more than good intentions are required, but rather an enormous volume of sound in order to set off and then provoke a trance. Sweat and blood will still be needed to make the action sacred and to satisfy the spirits in ceremonies of incredible sound power during rituals where Western griots like Meshuggha or The Birthday Party would be pale figures of well-behaved choirboys.

Working for years with Ifriqiyya Electrique, François R. Cambuzat and Gianna Greco were unable to discover the origins of North African worship communities such as Banga, Stambeli, Diwan, Gnawa. From the Arab-Muslim slave route, certainly, but from which country, which sub-Saharan region? Traces seemed lost. Research after intuition, little by little, this five-century-old route led them to West Africa, Senegal and the N’döep of the Lebous. For months in Mbour, Guéréo, Rufisque, Yoff and Ndar (Saint-Louis), François R. Cambuzat and Gianna Greco lost themselves around the rivers of Senegal, sacrificing to the genies – most often aquatic – NDOX, water, in Wolof language
