Born and raised in Kapanan, a tribal community in southern Taiwan, Sauljaljui is a musician, singer and cultural advocate on a mission to share the beauty of her Paiwan heritage with the wider world. Since her 2024, third album, Vaivaik (Searching for my Path), brought her multiple wins at both Taiwan's Golden Melody Awards and Golden Indie Music Awards, Sauljaljui has become one of the most influential Indigenous artists in Taiwan, celebrated for her soulful blend of traditional Paiwan melodies, Hengchun folk songs, and assimilated global influences. At the same time, her powerful voice, accompanied by her innovative rhythmic playing on Yueqin (Moon Lute) and the coolly confident grooves of her band, have been connecting with audiences at festivals around the world, including WOMAD UK and Womadelaide, Colours of Ostrava, Folk Alliance, and Vancouver Folk.
