Eve Crazy & Mar Yo is a duo that combines Senegalese rap, Finno-Ugric folk aesthetics and the melodic world of the Finnish Kantele instrument. The duo was formed in January 2021 In Dakar, Senegal. The duo’s music combines two continents, culture and society, urban and traditional, and universal femininity.
Eve Crazy is a Senegalese female rapper from Casamance in southern Senegal who has also toured Europe and is a member of the Gënji hip hop collective in Senegalese. Marjo Smolander is a Finnish kantele player and singer who caught the attention with her debut album Cosmologies in 2021.
In April 2021, they released the single “Jigéen ñi” (Women) which aims to get women together above cultures and languages. In November 2021, the three-song audiovisual ensemble “Trilogy” will be released. The Trilogy’s songs expand on gender perceptions, tell the story of a woman in the midst of domestic violence and celebrate single parents.
