Cantos de cego da Galiza e Portugal ("Songs of the blind from Galiza and Portugal") is a project about this singular character in the universal culture and their musical repertoire it both countries sharing a lot of similarities. A bunch of songs of common theme: crimes, funny love songs, dialogs of bridegrooms, historical facts...
Blind people carried the oral traditions from village to village since medieval times until late 20th century, they were part of the soundscape of fairs and streets in Europe and in the west side of the Iberian Peninsular were heard until recent times.
César Prata and Ariel Ninas are two musicians who recreate with varied instrumentation these songs. Mainly with voice, hurdy gurdy and guitar, but also with concertina, harmonio, hand drum, harmonica and percussions.
Their first album gathered Galician and Portuguese melodies, collected in old books or recorded directly from live testimonials.
