Founded in Geneva in 1995, Ensemble Kaboul embodies the traditional Afghan music, keeping alive Afghanistan's cultural richness combining popular songs with instrumental virtuosity. The ensemble is made up of Afghan musicians based in Europe. Master rubab player Khaled Arman is responsible for the istrumentations. His father Hossein is one of Afghanistan's most famous singers and composers, being one of the pioneers of the Afghan song revival in the 1960s. The musicians of Ensemble Kaboul are Afghan exiles and are yet to play in Kaboul following the collapse of the Taliban. The Ensemble also performs with Ustad Farida Mahwash, a powerful singer who was Afghanistan's top radio star in the 1970s.
