Caravan Records is opening up an office in Dar es Salaam in December this year. It will support local artists through events, recording, distribution and promotion. The label will undoubtedly build on the success of Mzungu Kichaa but it will also work closely with the existing studios and artists in Tanzania.
Preparations for Womex are well under way. Mzungu Kichaa has been chosen by World Music Denmark to present his work at his stand (The Danish Stand, Center Hall - 1). Mzungu Kichaa will be looking for distribution companies on behalf of Caravan Records to negotiate further distribution of current and future releases. Through the knowledge and expertise in Caravan Records, the label is in a unique position to produce and distribute East African music to the rest of the world. There are very few labels who are able to live up to the professionalism and dedication required to market and promote East African music. What Caravan Records can offer is a bridge between the international music industry and the raw talent that exists at the grass roots. It is important to have sound distribution channels, so that when a good album is produced it can be obtained and enjoyed by the many East African music lovers around the world.
