The Sunset Travelers is a new band build around vocalist / keyboardplayer Roel Spanjers. Many bands called on Roel in the past to play on their records or to tour with them. He toured amongst others with the legendary blues man Luther Allison, Byther Smith, Smokey Wilson and the lesser known Roscoe Chenier out of Opelousas, Louisiana.

Next to the fact that he played on the recordings of Dutch bands like Normaal and Julian Sas or American blues artists as Byther Smith, Erskine Oglesby and Roscoe Chenier. He was was one of the key members of JW Roy and The One Night Band. A roots band with whom he recorded two, in the Benelux countries highly acclaimed albums.

Already known as a talented Hammond and piano player he now proves with the Sunset Travelers to be an excellent, inspiring vocalist and songwriter. For his new band Roel picked great musicians that have paid their dues within the roots, blues and americana scene.

Members of the Sunset Travelers include guitar player/vocalist Richard van Bergen (also a former member of JW Roy and the One Night Band), bass player and vocalist Nico Heilijgers (who was for many years one of the key members of Captain Gumbo), and Jeroen Goossens, the former drummer of JW Roy's band.

Their music can best be described as Southern Soul. Their goal is to bring back the soul into the songs. Therefore they picked for their debut recording a number of stunning originals and a number of less obvious songs by people such as The Band, Eddie Hinton, Dan Penn and William Bell. This first CD is titled “For The Sake Of It” and it was released in March 2002 on Black and Tan Records.

In July the band performed at the International Bluesfestval in Schöppingen (Germany).
