With his latest album beautifully entitled Azul, Montreal-based Colombian-born composer and multi-instrumentalist Roberto Lopez, along with his virtuoso friends, leads us to a unique encounter between the wind ensembles of Colombia's Caribbean coast and North-American Jazz Big Bands.

On Azul, Roberto Lopez puts his own twist of funk and jazz on traditional pieces written by great Colombian composers (Lucho Bermudez, Jose Barros, Pablo Florez), as well as his most recent instrumental compositions. Afro-Colombian rhythms carry us on this enchanting journey, making us move to the beats of the porro, the cumbia as well as the paseo, the champeta, mapale and the chande.

Artfully performed, the instrumental pieces on Azul are brought to life by percussive woodwinds and brass instruments, retro guitars, and syncopated percussion, all inspired by the wind ensembles of Colombia's Caribbean coast. The result is captivating: an exclusively instrumental album that is as groovy as it is brilliant and honestly delightful.

Azul is the third album released by Roberto Lopez (Artiste Revelation Radio-Canada Musique 2010-2011, nominee at the JUNO AWARDS 2011, at the GAMIQ Awards and at the Canadian Folk Music Awards 2010). Along with his other group, the Roberto Lopez Project, he has released two albums that were vocally oriented: Soy Panamericano in 2009 and Que Pasa? in 2006.
