Brahim El Mazned is the artistic director of the Timitar Festival (Agadir, Morocco), a festival that is mainly dedicated to amazigh (Berber) culture that it has promoted throughout the world. Timitar has now become one of the most important world music festivals which welcomes each year over 600 artists and more than half a million visitors.
The Moroccan weekly « Tel Quel » recently declared Brahim El Mazned one of the hundred most influential personalities of Morocco. After a twenty year career in the Moroccan cultural field, Brahim El Mazned has become a leading reference in world music programming and the organization of major artistic meetings.
He is a jury member of both the Samarkand (Uzbekistan) festival and Babel Med (Marseille, France), as well as artistic counsellor for different festivals in Morocco and abroad.
Since 2007 he presents a weekly magazine called « Atlas Azawan » for the local radio station of Agadir, Radio Plus. Brahim El Mazned has also just been appointed to conduct the North Africa and Near East shortlisting of the 6ème Jeux de la Francophonie that will take place in Beirut, Lebanon, from 27 Septembre to 06 October 2009.
