At the young and brittle age of 23, Jazzmeia “Jazz” Horn hailing from the great Dallas, Texas has already earned a reputation in New York City as a dynamic musician. Jazzmeia Horn has a name that speaks for itself, capturing her very essence. Jazzmeia is a passionate vocalist and she continues to receive accolades from top critics and musicians alike. Her soulful sound, understanding of the jazz idiom, and storytelling has earned her comparisons of classic vocalists, like Betty Carter, Sarah Vaughan, and Nancy Wilson. “Jazzmeia Horn is one of the greatest vocalists I’ve heard in 40 years.” -Jon Hendricks
With the ambition to pursue a solo career, Jazzmeia moved to New York City Summer 2009 to Study at The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music. Shortly after, she had her first live radio appearance with Junior Mance at WBGO Radio Station in Newark, NJ Fall 2009. It wasn’t much later that she appeared with her quartet in several legendary jazz clubs citywide such as, The Apollo, The Red Rooster- Ginny's Supper Club, The Metropolitan Room, The Blue Note, Dizzy’s Jazz Club, Smalls Jazz Club, Zinc Bar, Bill’s Place, The Kitano, The Lenox Lounge, Minton’s Playhouse and The Jazz Standard. Jazzmeia has shared the stage with musicians such as, Billy Harper, Junior Mance, Winard Harper, Lincoln Center Alumni Vincent Gardner, Lafayette Harris, Delfeayo Marsalis, Mike LeDonne, Peter Bernstein, Vincent Herring, Johnny O’Neal; dancers- Chester Whitmore and Norma Miller, and NEA Jazz Masters Frank Wess and Ellis Marsalis.
Recently, Jazzmeia was awarded "The Rising Star Award" in The 2012 Sarah Vaughan International Vocal Competition held at NJPAC in Newark, NJ. She was selected into The Betty Carter Jazz Ahead Program March 2013 held at The Kennedy Center in DC. More recently, Jazzmeia won First Place Prize in the 2013 The Sarah Vaughan International Vocal Competition, hosted by WBGO and Jazz Root’s. Jazzmeia received her Degree from The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music.
Currently, Jazzmeia is still appearing in various clubs around the globe with her own Quintet called ‘The Artistry of Jazz Horn' as well as sideman appearances with Winard Harper, Brandon Sanders, The JC Hopkins Biggish Band and Billy Harper’sVoices. Her 2014 international touring schedule includes London, France, South Africa, Moscow and Austria. She resides in Harlem, New York working on her latest unreleased album.
