As in many countries, Argentinean tango became very popular in the 1920's and 30's also here in Finland. Tango found a very special place in the Finns' hearts and souls developing here into a widely popular national dance and music form among older and younger generations.

Guardia Nueva - a fine and stylish tango orchestra from Kokkola in Finland - has 14 musicians on stage conducted by Raimo Vertainen. As their name suggests, they started as an orchestra playing Astor Piazzolla and other Argentinean composers but these days they have developed into a concert orchestra with a wide repertoire of classic Finnish tangos (Unto Mononen, Toivo Kaerki etc.) with a Latin twist to it, standards of classic popular tunes from Benny Andersson to Augustin Lara throw in for good measure and naturally a huge Piazzolla, Carlos Gardel etc. repertoire with a touch of the Finnish tango passion.

Helsingin Sanomat - the leading Finnish newspaper - rated Guradia Nueva as "the best Finnish tango orchestra ever".
