Champions of Guadeloupean rhythm traditions perpetuate the percussive joys of gwoka.

Kan'nida has been representing the traditional music of Guadeloupe at music festivals around the globe since its formation in 1989. It's a family affair, comprised mainly of members of the Geoffroy family who are held in high esteem by most Guadeloupeans for their keen knowledge of the musical traditions of the archipelago. They are champions of gwoka, the emblematic drumming and dance style that has its origins in West Africa and grew up over the last two centuries on the sugar plantations. With an arsenal of percussion instruments, Kan'nida bring to life the fight dances, work-songs, funeral rituals, game-chants and rhythms of celebration that are the roots of the internationally successful genre, zouk, and still provide the throbbing pulse of the Guadeloupe carnivals.
