Sousou & Maher Cissoko share a destiny shaped by music.
Each of them on their own musical journey, they met, fell in love, started a family and started creating new tunes together. Their first, awarded, album Adouna was released in 2008. Stockholm - Dakar is their second album, mainly with music they wrote themselves except for one track. Most of the music was created when travelling between their different homes on different continents. Now the artists are preparing to promote their new album on a road trip through Europe to Dakar, starting in November 2011.

Sousou and Maher were both born into musicians' families. Sousou grew up in northern Europe, in the south of Sweden, and fell in love with the kora when her father started gigging with the Gambian griot Alagie Mbye in the early '90s. She has since spent a lot of time in West Africa learning to play the instrument and to sing in Wolof and Mandinka. Maher Cissoko was born into a well-known griot family from Casamance, Senegal, and learnt to play kora at an early age. The couple met when Sousou was invited to continue her kora studies at the Cissoko house in Ziguinchor. That's where it all started. Now they're touring with the world's best Swedish-Senegalese band, they've won one Swedish Folk & World Music award, been nominated to another, and have been touring in Scandinavia, Senegal, South Africa and Zanzibar.

Don't miss the possibility to see Sousou & Maher Cissoko live at WOMEX 2011, they're part of the Nordic Club showcases.
