The greek music today would be different without the bouzouki, this very specific string instrument. It was brought to Greece in the beginning of the 20th century by the refugees from Constantinople and Smirna, who settled in Athens. The bouzouki players were considered outlaws because of smoking hash, drinking and womanizing… Real „criminales“ with lots of groove!
On their second EP „Bouzouki Criminal“ the Cologne based BxPsoundsistema stays close to their style fusionating the Balkan roots on a proper way. There are no secrets in the production by Kosta Kostov and Basement Freaks – the riddim reminding on a shaky belly dance, supported by skanky guitar riffs and a wonderfull lead by a weeping bouzouki. And Berlin’s latino MC Paco Mendoza adding a banging hispano touch with his flow… What comes out is fresh and bouncy – an organic melting of past times vybes and beats & bass of today.
