Otmaro Ruíz was born in Caracas but he lives in Los Angeles for almost 20 years ago. Otmaro Ruíz, excellent and versatile pianist, presents the last album Sojourn (2008), a compilation of original and inspired compositions with masterful performances by Jimmy Branly, Carlos Del Puerto Jr. and Ben Wendel.
In 2000, Otmaro Ruíz was awarded a Grammy for his participation on Dianne Reeve’s In the moment – Live in Concert who was awarded Best Jazz Vocal album as well.
He has shared scene with artist like Jazz Straight Ahead – Dianne Reeves, Frank Morgan y Red Halloway; pop-rock Gino Vanelli, Robbie Robertson, Santana, Jon Anderson; genuine Jazz Afro-Cuban-Arturo Sandoval, Tito Puente, Talú al Jazz; exciting fusion- John McLaughlin, Frank Gambale, Alain Caron- and finally “Jing Chi, Roben Ford, Jimmy Haslip and Vinnie Colaiuta.
His performances shows his versatility, love and respect he feels for all the styles of music.
