The story of Jamal began in the year of 1999. This was when Tomasz "Miod" Mioduszewski and Lukasz Borowiecki, both musicians from Radom, started their cooperation, making mostly rap music.

In the meantime, Miod together with a crew of over ten musicians, founded a specific band which performed music oscillating between reggae, ska, ragga, punk and even hard core. Having played many cocncerts with the Le Illjah formation, Miod returned to intense work on the Jamal project. For a period of time, both groups functioned parallel to each other. However, due to a few misunderstandings Miod left the Le Illjah and the band no longer existed.

On the other hand, the demo of the Jamal crew aroused great attention from the Pomaton EMI record label which offered the band a recording contract. On the 18th of June 2005 under the imprint of this record label, a debut record of Jamal "Rewolucje" ("Revolutions") was published. After that the artist's popularity increased significantly, mostly because of singles such as "Policeman", "Tubaka", or "Kiedys bedzie nas wiecej". On the record, we can find reggae, raggamufin, hip-hop or even jazz inspired songs. One of the songs, "Warto to przetrwa&263;", drew attention of a British band Mattafix. They liked it so much that they put it on their record "Rhytm & Hymns" with their own English lyrics ("Freeman"). Songs "Policeman" and "Revolutions" have been included in a soundtrack to a Polish romantic comedy "Tylko mnie kochaj" ("Just Love Me"), which brought the band bigger popularity mostly among audience other than reggae and hip hop.

Jamal has given many concerts both with live musicians, mostly jazz oriented (bass, guitar, keyboard, drums, sax, trombone), and Dj's as Jamal Sound System.

At the moment the crew of Jamal include: a singer and the founder of the band Tomek "Miod" Mioduszewski, Frenchman (vocals), Grizlee (vocals), Gienia (keyboard), Ksi&281;&380;yc (guitar), Siekierka (drums), Woocheck (keyboard) and MZ (keyboard). Despite many line-up rotations The Jamal came back with a new album "Urban Discotheque" with guest star performances of Grubson, Cheeba or a beatboxer Zgas. On the record there are 16 pieces written by Miod, Kuba Galinski, Andrzej "Gienia" Markowski and Frenchman. The new release is promoted by a video clip made of a combination of two songs: "Pojde Tylko Tam" and "Pull Up".
