CARIOCA SOUL
(Text Translation and Creation: Marcela Ferreira)

Carioca Soul is an album that arrives in the marketing bringing highly popular intelligence. It is a CD enriched by wised references of the pop-soul music influenced by samba beats. Decco Torres beautifies this first CD with jazzy arrangements, rich voices tones, politically poet lyrics and striking programmed harmonies, all involved in the universe of the pop-carioca music. It is twelve special sonorities tracks.

The artist chooses an elegant repertory. Carioca Soul presents slight pop soul compositions. In these first tracks, Carioca Soul brings remakes such as Lindo lago do Amor, Bem e Mal and Jorge. Those are MPB venerated compositions that brings the concept of hope and determination as the main theme. They are dressed by the soul music, arranged by modern pop beats and by series of intelligent programs.

Carioca Soul diversifies and goes from rap to jazz. It shows in the song A Cidade e Seus Meninos a lot of swing when, adorns the rap-pop with the dirty of the distorted guitar; align the beautiful keyboard arrangements, and insert into the prosperous political lyrics. Continuing on the pop-soul style, Decco Torres comes charismatically presenting Quando a Noite Cai and Doce Perigo. Those are songs that come to affirm that it is hard to resist music with a pulse, especially when the jazz sets the direction of the timbre and the bass sets the palpitation tone. The only instrumental song is Suite Carioca Soul. It comes to show that the influence of jazz is as present in the "Carioca" nights as it is samba.

Like many good pop-soul albums, Carioca Soul presents fine ballads. As expected, it reveals Talvez, a cool music on track six. Here Decco Torres goes with elegance and simplicity taking along tuned voices' nuances in truly harmony with the basis of the bass and of the drums; mixed with a hearty swing of the "samba" pandeiro. Further, we have Madrugada on the next track that carries an expressive lyric where the percussion highly discusses the lines of voices along its creative jazzy arrangements. Dois coracoes and Poeira do Destino are two beautiful ballads, carrying on programmed drums; come slowly involving us into a seductive game illustrated by the rhythm and by the nurturing of the voice.

Leaving the ballads, Carioca Soul presents a joyful composition pop; so the public can rock on the dance floor, Embora eu nao Sinta. It arrives with modern beat, contemporaneous arrangements and beautiful jazzy lines. The author wants to show that pop-soul would never cease to be enriched by dance themes; mainly if it has defined bass lines calling a pop-groove to the dance floor.

Carioca Soul appears with composition by the author and by other known artists such as Jorge Vercilo and Gonzaguinha. Also, Decco Torres counts with compositions of many contributors: Marcio Loureiro, Toninho Vilas, Marcos Valente, Kewpi Ribeirto, Cristina Zomer, Lucas Duque and Walter Fernandes. The CD brings special participation of the famous Jorge Vercilo. Musical and artistic conception is by Decco Torres. Musical Production: Marcio Loureiro.
