A true voice of experience at the age of 78, Lia de Itamaracá has lived all her life on the island of Itamaracá and is today considered an icon of Ciranda music and dance, the cultural heritage of Pernambuco. Reaching this plateau took a long time, however. She danced in Ciranda circles from an early age, became known for singing and recorded her first album in 1977, gaining a reputation amongst composers and scholars, but no money, necessitating her to work as a school lunch lady for thirty years. In 1998, she was invited to appear at Abril Rock Festival, from which success came the 2002 album, Eu Sou Li, national recognition and international tours. Her newest, Ciranda Sem Fim, produced by DJ Dolores, is a forward-looking Ciranda celebration from the embodiment of the continuous past
