Where there’s innovation there’s imagination, and where imagination reaches the public domain there’s inspiration. So, we ask you to take a moment to reflect on what kinds of innovation are of special value and to consider the value of innovation on uncertain times. In a nutshell, the recipients should exemplify a new practice with the potential to be a game-changer in the classical music world.

Nominated by the multi-sector and multinational Nominating Committee, made up this year by 18 music journalists and experts from 16 countries, the focus for the 2021 Innovation Award was on projects that emerged out of the COVID-19 pandemic. Whether helping communities in need, applying technology in new and creative ways, bringing audiences together, or offering immersive musical experiences, this year's Shortlist is filled with projects and work that renews, revitalises and reinvents the art music wheel.

The 2021 Classical:NEXT Innovation Award Recipients will be awarded at the Award Ceremony at the physical Classical:NEXT event in Rotterdam, The Netherlands taking place 27-30 September 2021.
