Guitarist born in 1971 in Madagascar.
Rija learned from some of Madagascar's greatest traditional music masters (Rakoto Frah, Erick Manana, Régis Gizavo, Kolibera, Olombelo Ricky, etc....).
Rija Randrianivosoa is an extraordinarily versatile musician, whose career is multi-faceted: an artist both rooted in traditional music and resolutely open to the contemporary, a recognized artistic director and teacher. He is considered as "one of Madagascar's finest guitarists".
He develops a personal and original style with this double culture, which continues to grow through his various collaborations and tours (Madagascar, USA, Europe).
He teaches jazz and world music at the Bordeaux's Conservatory.
He also acts as a tutor and instrumental improvement teacher for students at the Pôle Supérieur d'Enseignement Musique et Danse d'Aquitaine.
In particular, Rija specializes in the Ba-Gasy style (traditional music from the Madagascar's highlands). In 2018, he released "Dobla Sento", the entirely devoted album to this style, in duet with Lalatiana, for whom he has been artistic director since 2006.
Rija is a member of Malagasy Guitar Masters, a group featuring three of today's leading Malagasy guitarists. As well as performing, this group keeps great importance on transmitting and teaching the traditional music of Madagascar throughout the world.
