Samoun Marlene was born in Tlemcen, Algeria and lives in Paris. She followed singing courses at the Rachmaninov Conservatory With an amazing ability to improvise, she invites us to a musical journey across languages, countries and ages.
Marlene Samoun was soloist in jazz ensembles, a choir and a Gypsy classic gospel group.
Surrounded by musicians with varied musical backgrounds, Marlene Samoun sings melodies of eternal themes, Yiddish, Sephardic, Hebrew and Arabic, sacred and secular songs, gospels and spiritual traditional American prayers. The songs are arranged in a renewed interpretation, warm and alive with influences of other music styles of the world.
Songs of joy or sadness which find their roots wherever men dream, suffer, love got in exile, from Cordoba to Istanbul, Salonika, Tetouan or the deep south of the United States.
Two albums, Notches Notches and Sur la route were released, dedicated to Jewish liturgical and secular music from medieval Spain, North Africa, Eastern Europe and the Balkans.
Marlene Samoun performs regularly in France and abroad.
