About 'Latin Adventure'
When percussionist Jochen Hachgenei started this new sextet a few years ago, he picked the right name: Latin Adventure.
This band takes on any style of music as long as it is Latin based. Styles that are presently in the repertoire are Cuban son, Salsa, Dominican merengue and bachata, Brazilian samba and forró, Columbian cumbia as well as an obscure style of cumbia developed in Peru in the 70’s called ‘chicha’, also from Peru is the festejo and from Spain: flamenco pop.
Six dedicated musicians (some with Conservatory diplomas and others with “street credit”) get together for years. Their friendship and musical pleasure is as infectious their sound.
Latin Adventure is music to dance to, listen to and learn about. Last year’s agenda included a lecture-concert in southern Germany and a “salsa with live music” class at a community center as well as salsa dance events in Holland.
Unique aspects of this band are their total accessibility coupled with a fearless approach to a wide variety of musical sounds.
