Young Flamencos
Guitarist, 22 years old

Art comes from within, they say in Cadiz; and watching a concert
of Keko Balodmero, you can understand how such a complex
way of playing can seem easy, coming from the hands of this
young guitarist.

Keko was born in 1984 and began playing the guitar at the age
of 9. Influenced by his brother Juanma Baldomero and of course
by his birthplace, the famous Barrio de Santa Maria where the
music of Flamenco can be heard abundantly in the streets. He
began his training with classes from the best guitarists of the
region like Oscar Lago, Andrés Martínez, Juan Antonio Gómez,
Román Vicenti, among others. At 15 he presents himself at
the prestigous National Flamenco Guitar Competition; Young
Talents in Jerez de la Fronterra (1999). Amidst hundreds of
guitarists Keko was a finalist.

At 18 he tours Europe with dancer El Mistela and composes his
first show for Taller Flamenco. The year 2001 brings him to 23
countries in the world on tour with the Maria Serrano Company.

In 2003 he produces Sergio Monroy's first album Monroy
Flamenco Piano, which won 2nd place in the Best Flamenco
Instrumental Category at the 2004 National Critics Awards.

He begins to be to recognized not only for his precise and
harmonic accompaniment, but also as a talented young
composer and is asked to join various dance companies to travel
throughout Asia and Europe. In 2005, at 21 years old, he
debuts as a soloist in his home town Cadiz to a packed house
and excellent critiques.

…arpegios, tremolos and staccato plucks flow from his hands in
a manner so expresive and open; full of melodies which all seem
to in someway acompany you throughout the entire concert.
(Fermin Lobaton, Diario de Cadiz, 2005)

Keko continues to work on his own compositions while
acompaning Jose Merce on his 2006/2007 tour. He has solo
shows booked in Ireland, France and Italy.
