Trans-Global Underground is in and of itself a microcosm of the history of World Music Fusion. Formed in the early nineties TGU was instrumental in forging a new sound that combined western dance music with Arabic music, Asian music, African music, avant-garde and anything else that struck their fancy. Along the way they launced the career of Natacha Atlas (who still occasionally performs in concert with the group), produced and/or remixed artists as diverse as Madagascar’s Tarika, Algerian Rai master Khaled, Material and Pop Will Eat Itself and toured with Plant and Page.

Impossible Broadcasting is pure Trans-Global Underground: musical, political, innovative and drawing from different corners of the globe. It features Malian Rap crew Tatapound on on track, Hungary’s Ferenc Balogh, leader of acclaimed Gypsy band Rományi Rotá on another and The Trio Bulgarka, Bulgaria’s best-known traditional music ensemble on two tracks. It features dancehall reggae, North African rhythms, sinewy sitar lines, electronic beats and socio-political lyrics. It is part The Clash, part Sly and Robbie, part Thievery Corporation and part 2001: A Space Odyssey, part traditional, part post-modern and ALL Trans-Global Underground…
