"Alento"
Dancas Ocultas paints the world with the original sound of their diatonic accordions.
Alento is the title of a new Dancas Ocultas album, a work that collects some of this incredible band's best themes. This album was released on February of 2011, and gave it's name to a new show by Dancas Ocultas, premiered in the Spring of 2011 at Lisbon's prestigious Museu do Oriente (The Museum of the Orient).
Artur Fernandes, Filipe Cal, Filipe Ricardo and Francisco Miguel are a unique quartet that is amazing venues all over the world, making the audiences surrender to the sounds of the diatonic accordion, an instrument they explore in the most original way. The result is well audible in Alento, an album that brought them enthusiasthic praise showing their music in a constant dialogue with international cultures. This album gathers the best of the band's output and is the basis of the current live show."Alento".
Dancas Ocultas have been taking their special breath not only to the four corners of Portugal but also beyond portuguese borders where they have been heavily solicited these last few years. They were honored to play a special set at the Womex Festival and received standing ovations at the Chiang Kai-Shek Cultural Center in Taiwan. And these are just two examples of the countless journeys they have embarked in. The music of Dancas Ocultas is made out of the most universal of all sounds, that of the breath, something that all cultures can relate to and know how to applaud.

"Exploring new compositions for an instrument wide spread in Europe but used distinctively in some Portuguese regions, such as those of the Minho region, is the diatonic accordion quartet Dancas Ocultas, wich draws music not just from the reeds of the instrument known in Portugal as concertina, but from its less obvious aspects such as the painting of the bellows."
