WOMEX 13 Official Showcase Selection
With dread-locks flying and limbs akimbo, Winston McAnuff cuts an imposing figure on stage as he throws himself into his songs, while Fixi the accordion and piano player known for his work with Tony Allen and Lindigo pushes him on with pulsing melodic grooves, creating an original hybrid of reggae, chanson, afrobeat, maloya and more. McAnuff was born in Jamaica and earned recognition at home for his idiosyncratic style with three albums recorded between 1977 and 1986, after which he dropped out of sight until French label Makasound released a compilation album, Diary of the Silent Years, in 2002, prompting McAnuff to move to Paris. Four albums and various collaborations followed until in 2012 he got together with Fixi to record A New Day and set out to delight audiences in inimitable style.
