Yousef Hbeish was born in the village of Yurqa in the northern Galilee not far from the city of Acre. He completed his studies in literature, philosophy, theatre and music from the University of Haifa. He is currently pursuing further studies in music and is working on establishing a specific curriculum for percussion. Hbeish imparts great sensitivity and emotion in playing his instruments with which he reacts mentally and spiritually. He does not limit himself to traditional percussion instruments; he uses unusual instruments to create a unique sound.
Hbeish joined the Edward Said National Conservatory of Music (ESNCM) in 1996 where he teaches percussion at the Conservatory’s three branches in Jerusalem, Ramallah and Bethlehem. He is a member in various musical groups and ensembles such as Karloma and the Oriental Music Ensemble of the NCM. Hbeish has performed at several Jerusalem Festivals and at seasonal concerts organized by the ESNCM and Yabous Productions. He has also participated in musical performances abroad with local and foreign groups.
