Tunes for Tara Tour
The Irish folk festival this year pays tribute to Ireland’s most important heritage site. Older than the Pyramids, the Great Wall of China or Stonehenge, Tara was the mythical ritual site of Ireland’s Neolithic inhabitants, later the residence of the High Kings of Tara and their druids. This is also the place where St. Patrick converted them peacefully to Christianity. In the 18th and 19th century it was a symbolic site in the fight for independence from England, where over one million Irish gathered. By all means a world heritage site, this is not officially declared yet.
Hard to believe, but true. The government is granting permission to build a motorway through the landscape of Tara and destroying the fascination and integrity of the country side. The profits from this tolled motorway will be coined by the American Halliburton Corporation. Tara is the heart and soul of Ireland and cannot be drastically altered. With the “Tunes for Tara” tour the Irish Folk Festival joins the large international protest. But it’s not only about Tara. Already a third of the historic Irish sites have fallen victim to the Celtic tiger building boom. Tara is everywhere!
The IFF artists celebrate with their “songs and tunes” Tara and it’s majesty. At the grand finale, which is the session, the audience will be transported with the help of a multivision show straight into the fields of Tara and the mysticism of this special place will make the spine tingle.
We might be on tour with a very serious cultural political mission but this does not mean that the festival will be lacking in it’s fun factor. If you want to create change you need power and good vibrations. Good music is still the best stimulation for that.
Das Irish Folk Festival zollt heuer der wichtigsten irischen Kultstätte – dem Königshügel von Tara - Tribut. Älter als die Pyramiden, die große chinesische Mauer oder Stonehenge war Tara Kultstätte der neolithischen Ureinwohner, später Sitz der keltischen Hochkönige und deren Druiden. Noch später der Ort, an dem St. Patrick diese zum Christentum friedlich bekehrte. Im achtzehnten und neunzehnten Jahrhundert symbolischer Schauplatz im Kampf um die Unabhängigkeit von England, an dem sich über eine Million Iren versammelte. In der Tat ein Weltkulturerbe, das aber leider offiziell noch keines ist.
Kaum zu glauben, aber wahr. Die Regierung beabsichtigt eine Autobahn mitten durch die Landschaft von Tara zu bauen und den Zauber dieses mystischen Ortes und Landschaft zu zerstören. Tara ist die Seele und das Herz Irlands und darf nicht ausgelöscht werden. Mit der „Tunes for Tara“ Tour reiht sich das Irish Folk Festival (IFF) in die breite Front des internationalen Protestes. Und es geht nicht nur um Tara. Bereits ein Drittel der historischen Stätten Irlands fiel dem Bauboom zum Opfer. Tara ist überall!
Die IFF Künstler werden durch ihre „songs and tunes“ Tara und seine Schönheit hochleben lassen. Beim großen Finale – der Session – werden die Zuschauer mittels einer Multivision auf den Königshügel entführt und die Mystik von Tara wird uns musikalisch und visuell unter die Haut gehen. Zwar sind wir mit einem ernsten kultur-politischen Thema auf Tour, der Spaßfaktor wird aber nicht zu kurz kommen. Wer etwas bewegen will, der braucht Power und gute Laune. Gute Musik ist immer noch das beste Dopingmittel. Wir freuen uns auf Ihren Besuch und unterschreiben Sie bei dieser Gelegenheit die Petition gegen die Zerstörung von Tara.
