Original title: Мечка да играе
Directed by Kristina Angelova
Duration 9’ | Without speech

The traditional Pesponedelnik festival of the masquerade games takes place every March in the Rhodope mountains of Bulgaria. To the sound of hundreds of bells, men with kukeri masks walk around the village of Shiroka Laka, performing ancient rituals that symbolise the awakening of nature and banishing evil. The festival is a continuation of local traditions in the village, which have been performed since time immemorial.

Kristina Angelova is a graduate photographer and videographer with a passion for the visual and musical arts.
