One of the most sought after & versatile musician of the present generation,Gaurav hails from a family of well known musicians of Allahabad. He recieved his initial training in music under the tutelage of his uncle, Shri J.D. Mazumdar, cousins Mrs.Kamala Bose and Mrs.Jayashree Roy, his father, Shri Dulal Mazumdar and Guru Pandit Nand Kishore Vishwakarma. Disciple of the legendary and world-renowned Maestro, Pandit Ravi Shankar since1985, Gaurav's association with his Guru and involvement with music spans many years. It is under the tutelage of Ravi Shankar that Gaurav started to learn the sitar from the very basics. He has indeed come a long way in his musical journey that began with vocal music, then violin and finally, the sitar. Performing since the last several years both in India and abroad, Gaurav has performed for major festivals at prestigious venues both in India & Abroad. He has also collaborated with well-known musicians in India (from both Carnatic and Hindustani styles) and the Abroad.

He has had the rare honour of being chosen to compose music for a ballet based on "Siddhartha" the book by Noble laureate, Herman Hesse. A joint presentation "East meets West", which Pandit Ravi Shankar and the famous western classical musician, Lord Yehudi Menuhin, had performed & recorded many years ago, Gaurav performed this with Menuhin's disciple Daniel Hope at various Festival worldwide including Bath & Gstaad in 2006. This CD has been released by Warner Classic and was nominated for a Grammy in 2005.
Gaurav has also collaborated with and composed for the English Chamber Orchestra and performed at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, London.
His performance at the Vatican to celebrate the new millennium was a unique event where he presented his creation 'AKANKSHA', dedicating it to World Peace.
Gaurav recently collaborated & performed with Philip Glass on his latest creation 'Orion' which was premiered in Athens to commemorate the Olympics'2004 in Athens-Greece.The piece was specially composed by Pt.Ravi Shankar.

He has several albums to his credit, released by leading recording companies both in India & abroad and his concerts have been enjoyed and appreciated by large audiences the world-over and have received rave reviews. Today, Gaurav has secured an important position in the field of music as one of the foremost musicians of his generation and continues to perform, teach and compose music to Global acclaim.
