company description

GRIOT is more than just a booking agency for artists from the Southern hemisphere, it is also an agency that produces special events for companies, NGO´s and the German Government. The agency has been in existence for 15 years and during this time has organised several thousand concerts, lectures, theatre plays, exhibitions and events with artists and VIPs such as Nelson Mandela, Desmond Tutu, Johnny Clegg, Papa Wemba, Veronika Feldbusch, Johannes Rau, Hugh Masekela, Francis Bebey, Gerhard Schröder, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Stuttgarter Philharmoniker etc. Our range of venues includes places like the Alte Oper Frankfurt, Kölner Philharmonie, Komische Oper Berlin, Liederhalle Hamburg, Beethovenhalle Bonn etc.

GRIOT devised the cultural concept for the Africa Pavilion at the Expo 2000 and was in charge of realization, management and artistic direction of the cultural programme. During that period the agency organised some 500 concerts, 70 workshops and 25 exhibitions in the Africa Pavilion and for the Global House. No other agency in Germany - working exclusively with artists from the Southern hemisphere - ever did a project of that dimensions before.

As a producer of special events for companies, NGO´s and the German Government, GRIOT organised the cultural events for the celebrations of the 40th anniversary of Deutsche Welthungerhilfe (Bonn Beethovenhalle), BMZ & GTZ (Altes Wasserwerk & Frankfurt Hoechst Jahrhunderthalle), Misereor (NRW Kunstsammlung), The Africa Gala of the Deutscher Bundestag (Paul Löbe Haus Berlin) and the One World Exhibition at the Potsdamer Platz Arkaden, Berlin Shopping Mall. and many, many other events.

GRIOT'S focus for 2005 is on WOMEN'S VOICES: inviting the music market to discover the voices and talents of some brilliant singers and artist like

Anastacia Azevedo -Brazil - new album release in 2004 (more infos soon) beautiful Brazilian music Izaline Calister - Curacao - new album release in 2004 with Network Media

Featured as outstanding performers on the Women's Voices platform are two ladies: the Haute Couture designer Oumou Sy from Senegal, offering a fashion spectacle, the likes of which have not been seen in Europe to date. And Africa's most popular storyteller, Gcina Mhlophe with a new programme and special guests like the musicians Patrick Bebey and Sam Tshabalala.
