Bosnian accordionist Almir Meskovic and Romanian-Serbian violinist Daniel Lazar bring sparkling virtuosity and emotional depth to a pan-Balkan repertoire of melodies originating in Romania, Kosovo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia and Serbia, expanded with original compositions adding elements from Scandinavian folk music. Escapees from both sides of a war, the pair met in Norway, where they were continuing their Master degree studies at the Oslo Academy of Music, and soon began playing together as a duo. They have performed with the Oslo Philharmonic and the Norwegian Radio Orchestra and formed the international Balkan folk septet, The Kuraybers. Their debut album, Roots, was released in 2018, highlighting their universal approach with guests such as Nepalese tabla player Sanskriti Shrestha, Steinar Ofsdal on Nepalese bansuri flute and Serbian luminaries Bojan Marjanovic on piano and Mili Orucevic on vocals and guitar.
