Paulo Flores

Paulo Flores

United Nations goodwill Ambassador to Angola, author, composer and interpreter, Paulo Flores has been building remarkable work for thirty years. His last álbum "Independência" was released last April 2022. Pioneer of Kizomba movement, his song "Isso é boda" sets the genre as a dance and party movement. "Poet of the people" he's a storyteller of narratives that are faithful keepers of contemporary Angolan identity.

Paulo revisits the classics of Angolan music from the 60s and 70s, accompanying them with traditional percussions (Puita, Dikanza, Hungú and Mukindo) with the show “Raiz da alma” that he presented at CCB in Lisbon and at Casa da Música do Porto, a show that mixed ethnic percussion with guitar strumming and African guitar melodies.

Paulo Flores inscribes his work in a language that is based on the search and valorization of the Angolan musical heritage, with space for the influence of other musical genres. It appears today in this successful mix of African, Caribbean, Brazilian and Afro-Cuban influences.
