Sara Alexander is an Israeli woldmusic singer
and composer, pioneering for
peace among israelis & palestinians.
Born in Jerusalem, the daughter of Jewish,
gipsy, Turkish and Romanian immigrants,
exposed since childhood to the traditional and
contemporary music of the Orient
and Occident, Sara Alexander composes and
interprets a musical universe at the
crossroads of many cultures and traditions.
After receiving the First Accordion Prize from
the Haifa Conservatory and participations
in various shows, including the famous troop &
quot;Leakat Ha Nachal", she
left Israel in 1967 and started a series of
tours that took her from America
through Scandinavia via Turkey and the Balkans
before settling down in France.
Since the 70's Sara Alexander has been
dedicating her art to the Israeli-Palestinian
reconciliation, enhancing her contacts with
Arab artists ( Mahmoud Darwish,
Hedi Guella, Marcel Khlife, Imad Saleh, Camilla
JubranÉ). She appeared
thus on the greatest international stages with
such famous artists as Joan Baez,
Ivry Gitlis, Miguel-Angel Estrella, The Freedom
Singers, Pete Seger...
At the beginning of the 90Õs Sara
Alexander settled down in Paris. Encounter
after encounter and project after project she
integrated in her musical realm
some of the best musicians that can be met
around the parisian wolrdmusic &
jazz scene, such as Nedim Nalbantoglu, Jef
Sicard, Arach Khalatbari, M'Jid Bekkas,
Mehdi Haddab, Louis Soret, Javier CeresoÉ
and certainly the team of Ya
Salam.
For those who know her openness, her modesty,
her permanent desire to giveÉin
short, her enormous unifying energy, it is to
no surprise that around her an
ensemble so generous and cosmopolitan as Ya
Salam became a reality. A group
where the joy of being together is as important
as the virtuosity and diversity
of their sound.
