Afrosound celebrates its 50th anniversary this 2022 with new music. This year the 50 years old cumbia band from Discos Fuentes released two new songs with the original and psychedelic guitar sound only they can offer. 'La Danza del Mono' is a cover from a Peruvian band, and 'Trueno' is an original song composed by the great Fruko.
Afrosound arose from the desire of the Vice President of Discos Fuentes, José María Fuentes, to have a local version of the emerging sounds of Afro-Latin rock that came from outside the country, inspired by contemporary artists such as Osibisa or Santana. Afrosound's mission was initially to emulate the tropical and guitar sounds that were emerging in countries like Peru and Ecuador at the time. The 1972 theme, "La Danza de Los Mirlos" (by the Peruvian group Los Mirlos) was a great success in Colombia and with it, a new way of interpreting Colombia's greatest exportable musical heritage emerged: cumbia, yes, since a Peruvian perspective. The executives of Discos Fuentes brought together a group of expert musicians the following year who were commissioned to interpret this type of music for the local market since they were confident of achieving national radio success.
