Born in Funchal (1986), André Santos, started playing the guitar by mirroring his older brother Bru-no, playing and listening to records such as Rage Against the Machine, Thelonious Monk or João Gilberto. This musical diversity shaped and sharpened André’s curiosity to several musical genres and sounds, becoming a versatile musician that studied jazz and improvisation but also visits rock, Brazilian music or Madeira’s folk music and traditional string instruments.

André Santos is one of the most active guitarists in the portuguese musical scene, where he played and recorded with a great number of musicians such as: Carlos Bica, Maria João, Joana Espadinha, Teresa Salgueiro, Salvador Sobral, António Zambujo, Júlio Resende, Demian Cabaud, Gonçalo Marques, André Matos, Marco Franco, Cristina Branco, Carminho or Ana Moura.

As a leader he has 3 records: Ponto de Partida' (2013), 'Vitamina D' (2016) and ‘Embalo’ (2022). As a co-leader he has this duo with his brother Bruno called Mano a Mano, a guitar duo with 5 studio albums released: Vol.1 (2014), Vol.2 (2017), Vol.3 (2019), O Disco de Natal (2021) and Trilogia das Sombras (2023).

He also works as musical director in several projects, such as MUTRAMA (2018), in which he did several arrangements of Madeira’s folk music, based on field recordings made by Associação Xara-banda; ‘Recordar MAX’, invited by Antonio Zambujo to create a show based on Maximiano Sou-sa’s (a.k.a. Max) repertoire; ‘Um Só Dia’, a show to celebrate the poet Manuel Alegre, in which André Santos arranged several songs with lyrics by Manuel Alegre.

With all these projects André Santos has been touring all around the world, in countries such as: Mexico, Macao, Cape Verde, Sweden, Italy, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Lithuania, Slovenia, Netherlands, USA, Poland, Germany, Spain, Uruguay, Serbia, Montenegro or Angola.
