The Fira Mediterrània of Manresa has opened its 2010 call for applications to companies and groups who would like to take part in the thirteenth edition of this strategic event in the performance markets scene, organised by the Ministry of Culture and the Media of the Generalitat of Catalonia. The deadline for presenting projects is Friday, 26 March 2010. The Fira will take place between the 4th and 7th November 2010.
Priority given to premiere performances
During its selection process, the Fira will give priority to premiere performances, as well as those that have never been seen in Catalonia, the Catalan-speaking regions or Spain. With this call for applications, the market is also announcing its non-exclusive central theme of “Movement”. This idea has followed on from the two previous editions. In 2008, the chosen theme was street parties, and in 2009 it was a dual theme of tradition and modernity.
This call stresses the interdisciplinary nature of the Fira, which brings together various artistic languages: visual arts, circus, dance, exhibitions, music, oral storytelling and theatre. Therefore, the new areas that were promoted or introduced in 2009, such as visual arts, oral storytelling and exhibitions, will be featured again in this year’s Fira. In addition, the market will include performances in various formats (small, medium and large-scale), which will be aimed at both family and adult audiences.
Last year the Fira received around 600 proposals from which 100 were selected. The programme of performances is planned according to infrastructural capacity, company professionalism and suitability to various existing formats.
