FOLK MUSIC OF THE SWEDISH SPEAKING MINORITY IN FINLAND
Marianne is versatile folk musician living in Turku in South Western Finland, performing solo and with different ensembles. She has learned the Finland-Swedish folk music tradition since her childhood and holds a Master’s degree in folk music from the Sibelius Academy.
As a freelance folk musician Marianne is engaged in various musical projects. Her next album" Med Haven – With The Seas", consisting of traditional tunes, compositions and arrangements will be released in spring 2024. The album is a solo album for violin & voice. The album has been inspired by sailing with traditional boats in the archipelago, as well as by the traditional music of the fiddlers and singers in the coastal areas. Marianne sings simultaneously with playing violin. Her musical expression has a personal touch, based on tradition, heard as untamed polskas, minuets and rural folk songs arranged for voice & violin. Marianne has a deep knowledge for folk music and an interest for contemporary styles and improvisation.
Arranging and composing music is a natural part of Marianne's music making and she has worked with choirs, theater and music for art exhibitions. She also gives workshops and courses for people of all ages and work with music care. Marianne works with a wide range of styles and one she has a passion for singing Argentine and Finnish Tango.
Mariannes latest collaborations, except solo concerts, are e.g. Argentine tango concerts with Henrik Sandås & Mikko Perkola, Hedda Heiskanen & Juanjo Passo, concerts with the kanatele artist Eija Kankaanranta, combining contemporary music and folk music, Duos with ackordeon artists Pekka Pentikäinen and Maria Kalaniemi and the ensemble Skärgårdens Puls (The Pulse of Archipelago).
