Copenhagen Jazzhouse & One World proudly presents a pre-CD-release concert with DAWDA JOBARTEH & the beautiful baking vocals and dancers, Maria and Marie-line Marolany (Salif Keita) along with a elegant line up of some of the best Afro- musicians living in Scandinavia.
Born 1976, Afro Manding Kora player Dawda Jobarteh is no stranger to tradition. He grew up in a Mandinka Griot family in Gambia. Following in the footsteps of his grandfather Alhaji Bai Konteh, his two uncles Malamin Jobarteh and Dembo Konteh, and his father Amadou Bansang Jobarteh has not deprived Dawda of his own voice and sound.
A personal invitation from Peter Gabriel to tour on Womad in 1997 showcased Jobarteh's talents to European audiences. Since then Jobarteh has continued to play internationally with distinguished musicians such as Tata Dinidin, Pierre Drge & New Jungle Orchestra, Youssef Latif, Wombat, Tchando, Moussa Diallo, Mikkel Nords, Palle Mikkelborg, Muktar Samba, Toumani Diabate and Bassekou Kouyate.
Jobarteh has been selected to perform at Sauti za Busara Music Festival in Zazibar 2010 on his East Africa Tour. His line-up includes backing vocalists Marie-line and Maria Marolany (Salif Keita) along with a strong rhythm section comprised of musicians from Denmark, Balkan and West Africa; Preben Carlsen, Nana Osibio, Zoltan and Salieu Dibba.
He will be releasing his debut album "Nkanakele" ("We don't fight") in January 2010, with the participation of the tour line- up and musical capacities such as Etienne Mbappe, Linley Marthe, Toumani Diabate and Shashank Sabbu.
