The brothers Guisse(Djibby,Cheikh and Aliou)come from Senegal. They are native from Fouta Tooro, a north Senegalese region. They sing in different african languages and especially in Peul, wich is their own people dialect.Their music belongs to the traditional West African folk music.A rainbow of traditional rhythms coming from the Toucouleur( an etnic people from North Senegal and Mauretania) streams into that folklore music.Artist like Baaba Maal and Mansour Seck remind us the music kind,as they also come from the same region.Les Freres Guisse have been performing since 1988.Their acoustic sessions, their unique own sound have made them very famous in Africa.Their songs give you food for thoughts about the whims of fate and especially about the situation of the young. With two acoustic guitars and a djembe, the three Guisse Brothers really do mesmerize all audience for whom they play.
Jeroen van Vliet(piano),Eric van der Westen(bass),Pieter Bast(drums)and Paul van Kemenade(alto sax, winner of the Boy Edgar Price 99/00)got together in 1982.They last got joined in 2002 by the trombonist Louk Boudesteijn. The jazz quintet never wait to long for another occasion to experience the magic of music acquaintances. And it has until now allready got to meet more than a few!Playing with a pop group or a harmonic ensemble, as well as playing with others, classical orchestra or international guests, makes their musical journey one of the most diverse and culturally rich.
Imagine both The Freres Guisse and the Paul van Kemenade Quintet Plus playing together and you get an amazing performance of genuine music.
