It is difficult to overstate the accomplishments of French pianist Alexandre Tharaud. Tharaud has performed with the most important conductors and orchestras in the most prestigious halls, and his résumé includes an award of ‘Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres’ by the French Ministry of Culture. He has enjoyed such varied collaborations as with actor Juliette Binoche, conductor and soprano Barbara Hannigan, and even French horse trainer and performer Bartabas.
Tharaud’s recordings reflect a performer at the height of his powers, including evolving collaborations with cellist Jean-Guihen Queyras -- a musical partnership dating back 20 years -- as well as recordings of top-flight piano concertos, famous works for solo piano, world premieres, and even a CD of swing music. Tharaud recently released a performance memoir entitled ‘Show Me Your Hands,’ the perfect gambit from a consummate performer, an artist in full.
