Banda's music springs up from the deep pool of Slovak traditional music and leaps over borders in all directions, picking up elements of blues, jazz, Balkan, Celtic and Latin music as they fly. With dexterous use of an assimilated acoustic line-up of dulcimer, viola, violin, contrabass, helicon accordion, mandolin, bouzouki, drum set and some rich and rousing vocals, they create serious fusions with deceptively playful ease: Moravian mountain dance tunes reel over a reggae rhythm; an organic hip-folk groove softly drives a plaintive Ukrainian ballad. They've released two albums to date, the first, Banda Jedna, ignited enough international airplay to reach the top ten of the World Music Charts Europe in 2011, while the second, HraBanda, repeated that feat in 2014 and was named one of the best albums that year by NPR's Global Village Radio Show.
