Beatriz Felício was seven years old when she first heard Amalia Rodriguez singing on television and immediately professed her desire to become a fado singer, which was a surprise to her parents as they were not particularly fado fans. But in the following years Beatrice persuaded them to take her to fado houses, where she assimilated the essence of the art. As a teenager she participated in several TV talent shows including Portugal's The Voice, which led her to appearances nationwide. This year the now 24 year-old holder of a Psychology degree won the prestigious New Talents Ageas Award and is a regular performer at the main fado houses. Though still a fresh face on the scene, her powerful and expressive voice carries the deep soul of fado with convincing authenticity. A star is born.
