Selma Uamusse's music draws on the roots of her country of origin, taking Mozambican rhythms, lyrics in local dialects, changana and chope, and traditional instruments such as timbila and mbira, combining them with the multifarious influences she has assimilated growing up in Portugal, from Portuguese and Brazilian music to electronics, rock, gospel, soul and jazz. In a comprehensive career to date she has worked with high-profile names such as Wraygunn, Rodrigo Leão, Throes + The Shine, Moullinex and Octa Push. The positive acclaim generated by her 2018 debut solo album, Mati, led to touring in Europe, Brazil and Mozambique. Her 2020 Guilherme Kastrup produced follow-up, Liwoningo, (meaning 'light' in the chope language) symbolises her quest to help illuminate a world fraught with division and conflict by harnessing the social and political transforming power of music.
