Making the maximum from the minimal, Tarta Relena is a project of two singers from Barcelona, using their voices – sublimely aided by subtle electronics – to travel in time and restate the eternal feelings and questions of humanity, whether found in traditional Georgian song or a composition by 12th century Benedictine abbess Hildegard von Bingen, adaptations of traditional poetry by Pashtun women from Afghanistan or a popular Greek folk song. Marta Torrella and Helena Ros, friends since teenage years when they sang in the same choir, formed their duo in 2016 and in 2020 released a first EP which won them the Rockdelux award for best EP of the year. Their 2021 debut album, Fiat Lux, has elicited rave reviews and performances at festivals such as Primavera Sound, Sónar, Le Guess Who? and Mutek Montréal.
