In 2024, Helsinki Music Centre’s (Musiikkitalo) grand concert hall will finally have a new organ as the heart of Musiikkitalo. The organ will have 124 registers, making it one of the largest modern concert hall organs of our time.
This new instrument is celebrated through the International Kaija Saariaho Organ Composition Competition. The competition will produce new and interesting solo organ works and concertos for organ and symphony orchestra and promote cooperation among organists, composers and orchestras. The competition has three series: concertos for organ and symphony orchestra, works for chamber orchestra and organ, and solo organ.
The Helsinki organ project and the ongoing competition will be presented by the project manager Kaisa Näreranta from the Helsinki Music Centre Foundation and the chair of the Helsinki Music Centre Organ Association and organist Jan Lehtola.
